The Matter of Death in Yoron Island as Viewed from the Standpoint of Anthropology : Proposition of the Term “Appropriate Age” in Studies of Longevity Advances in Aging (Death)

本研究では，これまでの与論島を中心とした琉球文化圏における筆者のフィールドワークを発展させて，現在用語構築を模索して概観する。本用語は長寿科学研究における新たな用語として提言したいものである。筆者は琉球文化圏における長寿科学研究をとおして，社会・文化的要因の解明に努めてきた。そのプロセスや現在携わる医療福祉教育を通して，今後のわが国の長寿科学研究には「長寿」や「死生観」「ＱＯＬ」といった概念を統合した形での『適寿』の必要性を感じた。そこで，これまでの筆者の研究結果や学生へのアンケートから『適寿』について考察し，今後の長寿科学研究を見据える材料として提示してみる。
The author of this paper has done fieldwork in the Ryukyu cultural area centering Yoron Island, and in this paper in expanding the former studies, the term “Appropriate age” is surveyed, which is now under discussion of defining terminology. The author seeks to propose this term as a new terminology in gerontology. His former studies of longevity advances in aging in the Ryukyu cultural area have been done to make clear the social and cultural factors. In the course of the studies and the medical welfare education in which the author is now engaged, it seems necessary for our studies of longevity advances in aging to define the term “Appropriate age” as a term which integrates the concepts of “longevity,” “the matter of life and death,” “QOL,” etc. Upon this, the term “Appropriate age” is considered with the former studies and the questionnaire to the students, and is presented as a material for the future discussion in this study.
