 note = {application/pdf, 概念の問題は常に気になるものである。「定義」の確立という言葉の魔力に容易に屈服させられるほど気が弱くは無いが，無視して論を進めるほど気が強くも無い。
本稿は往々にして厄介な概念の問題を，「巡礼」という語を事例として，巡礼研究の文脈において見て行くものである。考察の対象は，研究者による巡礼理解にとどまらず，日本で広く用いられている用語における巡礼理解をも含めたものである。すなわち，まず，研究の動向を時系列に従って押さえつつテクニカルターム（分析概念）としての「巡礼」を考え，次いで，用語としての「巡礼」と巡礼的行為を視野に収めつつフォークターム（民俗語彙）としての「巡礼」を扱うものである。特に後者においては，民俗的事実が有する研究者の思惟を超える底力に委ねて，「巡礼」の周辺から立ち上がる巡礼の多様性を数点の図とともに提示する。
また，「巡礼」に関しては翻訳語との関係で困難な状況が生じ易いのであるが，pilgrimageとの比較研究を進めるためにも，これに関して整理を試みるものである。
最終的には，こうした問題意識にかなう，有効な「巡礼」概念の定立が求められるため，本稿でも一応の概念規定を提示するが，しかし，多様な巡礼の在り方が示しているのは，担い手の外形上の表出と内面との関係にこそ重要な問題が潜んでいるということである。それは人々の心に映ずる「歴誌」の問題であり，巡礼の意味の問題である。こうした「歴誌」生成過程の中にこそ，現代科学では超えられない癒しや救い，生きがい，心の処し方といったものを実現する豊かな民衆の知恵が秘められていると考えられるのである。, The matter of concept always weighs on our mind. We are not fainthearted enough to easily resist the magic of the words, establishing the “definition”, and we are not strong minded enough to go a step farther ignoring them either.
This paper deals with the matter of concept which is often a complicated problem, as a case study on the term of “Junrei”. The subject of consideration includes not only the folkloristic ones but also the actions in general term of “Junrei” First, the trend of this study is chronologically grasped and the technical term of “Junrei” as an analytical concept is considered. Then, putting terminology and actions of “Junrei” in perspective, “Junrei” as a folk-term is studied. Especially in the latter, the diversity of “Junrei” which is rising from its circumference is presented with several figures, entrusting the potential power of the folkloric facts, which is beyond the speculation of folklorists.
The translation of “Junrei” tends to make difficulties, and the author of this paper tries to reorganize this matter in order to make comparative studies with pilgrimage abroad.
At final stage, the effective definition of “Junrei” concept to satisfy this critical mind should be established; an attempt is presented in this paper. However, the diversity of junrei suggests that an important issue is hidden in the relation of externals and internals of actual pilgrims. This is the matter of “Rekishi(their own historical story)” which is reflected in people's mind, and the matter of the meaning of “Junrei”. It seems to be in the process of forming the “Rekishi” where exists the vast folk wisdom which realizes healing, relief, purpose of life or management of mental life.},
