Ichiro Yawata stands out for his pioneering research in this area, and it was he who was quick to suggest a correspondence between the distribution of fish traps and the sphere of rice cultivation culture. This paper continues his research, and using a mainly folkloristic approach examines the relationship between fish traps and wet rice cultivation with the aim of illuminating the significance in folklore terms that the fish trap has as an implement for catching fish in rice paddies.\nIn Japan there are four environments in which fish traps have been used. 1) Marshlands adjoining rivers and lakes; 2) low-lying fields that are easily flooded during the annual flooding season; 3) holding ponds or irrigation channels drained at the onset of the agricultural off-season; and 4) shallow inter-tidal zones.\nOf these, the first three are the most important as areas where fish traps are used, with all three related to a rice paddy environment. Local inhabitants used their own techniques to turn the first environment into rice fields, effectively making them reserve rice fields. While the second environment is a rice paddy that lies adjacent to the first, both are easily transformed into rice fields with the onset of the flooding season brought on by either snowmelt or the rainy season. It is at such times that fish, now in their spawning season, arrive en masse in these fields. These fish are then caught using fish traps. In contrast, the third environment consists of man-made low-lying marshland that has been created as a result of rice cultivation activities. These low-lying environments that appear at the beginning of the agricultural off-season when water that is no longer needed is discharged from holding ponds and irrigational channels are fishing spots that are perfect for fish traps. A special feature of this fishing is that it is contingent on work undertaken to manage and maintain water facilities, such as holding ponds and irrigation channels, that takes place as part of the rice cultivation calendar. Consequently, this fishing is significant in the context of communal work undertaken in villages and water facilities, and is linked to village festivals such as the autumn festival. Hence, it may be said that in a rice cultivating society that uses water, opportunities for this kind of fishing have, in effect, been used as a practice that has links to the spiritual life of the villagers.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_heading_23":{"attribute_name":"見出し","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_heading_banner_headline":"開館20周年記念論文集","subitem_heading_language":"ja"},{"subitem_heading_banner_headline":"Special Issue for the 20th Anniversary of National Museum of Japanese History","subitem_heading_language":"en"}]},"item_10002_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15024/00001152","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_10002_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"国立歴史民俗博物館","subitem_publisher_language":"ja"}]},"item_10002_relation_17":{"attribute_name":"関連サイト","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_relation_name":[{"subitem_relation_name_text":"第108集 収録論文 タイトルリスト"}],"subitem_relation_type_id":{"subitem_relation_type_id_text":"https://www.rekihaku.ac.jp/outline/publication/ronbun/ronbun5/index.html#no108","subitem_relation_type_select":"URI"}}]},"item_10002_source_id_11":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AN00377607","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_10002_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"0286-7400","subitem_source_identifier_type":"PISSN"}]},"item_10002_version_type_20":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"安室, 知","creatorNameLang":"ja"},{"creatorName":"ヤスムロ, サトル","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Yasumuro, Satoru","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2016-04-01"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"kenkyuhokoku_108_18.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"2.7 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"kenkyuhokoku_108_18.pdf","url":"https://rekihaku.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/1169/files/kenkyuhokoku_108_18.pdf"},"version_id":"c065e849-d210-4c78-866b-f7c616adbb47"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"魚伏籠と水田漁撈","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"魚伏籠と水田漁撈","subitem_title_language":"ja"},{"subitem_title":"Fish Traps and Rice Paddy Fishing","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"10002","owner":"3","path":["134"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2016-04-01"},"publish_date":"2016-04-01","publish_status":"0","recid":"1169","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["魚伏籠と水田漁撈"],"weko_creator_id":"3","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-09-26T02:37:20.299313+00:00"}
