 note = {application/pdf, 隈田の共同研究に参加するにあたり、豊富に残されている隈田の中世史料に現れる地名を現在の小字・小地名に比定する作業を行うことになった。中世前期の史料は名（みよう）の名で土地が表されることが多いため残存率は低いが、中世後期の地名はかなりよく残っている。とくに史料の多い境原については、現在宅地造成で景観が一変しているが、開発以前の地図を用いて地名の聞き取りを行い、四至をはじめ主要な地名はほぼ比定できた。小峯寺領の範囲や、近世に堂座が存在した東光寺（薬師堂）が中世には小峯寺近くの東谷川南岸にあったことなどが判明し、葛原家文書に残されている近世の境原絵図も用いることによって、小峯寺周辺の景観はかなり復元できるが、領主葛原氏の屋敷跡の正確な所在地は確定しがたい。紀ノ川以北の北荘については小字レベルの比定を行ったが、高野山文書中に史料が残されている南荘については今回は考証の対象外とした。付図「境原主要部」および「隅田荘大字・小字図」をあわせ参照されたい。後者は南荘および現在五條市域の木ノ原・畑田をふくめ荘域のほぼ全体を含んでいる。, In this joint research on the Suda estate, I identified place names that appear in the abundant documents of the Suda preserved from medieval times with present-day places within sub-towns or sub-villages. Only a small number of place names mentioned in early-medieval documents, in which plots of land were often identified using the names of their cultivators, remain unchanged. A much higher proportion of place names from the late-medieval period still remain today.
Especially in the Sakaihara area, concerning which many old documents have been preserved, I was able to match almost all the major place names, including the boundary of Sakaihara, with actual locations on contemporary maps. The landscape of Sakaihara changed completely after having been excavated to create a housing development, and so I interviewed local people, using maps prior to the change. The extent of the Omineji temple estate has been confirmed, and it has also been demonstrated that Tōkōji temple (Yakushidō) where the dōza temple association existed in the early-modern period, was located near Omineji temple, on the south bank of the Higashitani river. The old landscape of the area around Omineji temple can be restored to a large extent, partly by using early-modern maps, but it is difficult to tell exactly where the residence of the head of the Katsurawara family was situated.
Place-name identification was conducted in the Kita-no-shō (“Northern estate”) north of the Kinokawa river, but not in the Minami-no-shō (“Southern estate”), materials concern which are included in the “Kōyasan documents” (preserved at the Kongōbuji temple at Mt. Kōya). The attached maps, “The Main Parts of Sakaihara” and “Ō-aza (sub-town, sub-village) and Ko-aza (places within Ō-aza) in the Suda Estate,” may be a helpful guide. The latter covers almost the entire estate, including the Minami-no-shō, Kinohara, and Hatakeda (the last two are now part of the city of Gojō, western Nara Prefecture).},
