The hamlets of the former Suda estate area still carried some meaning when shrine festivals were held, and as the nuclei of followers of the same deity enshrined at Suda Hachiman, but this relationship lost its significance in terms of the governing structure. This probably reflects not simply the transformation of the old hamlets into administrative units but their actual features as well. This paper looks at the features of village development from the medieval to early-modern periods in the context of irrigation-related folkways.\nThere were two terraces, upper and lower, on both banks of the Kinokawa river. Many small streams flowing into the Kinokawa river ran parallel at relatively equal intervals, their hollows cutting through the terraces. A typical village of the area lay in the upper and lower terraces bordered by these hollows on the east and the west, the mountains to the south and the Kinokawa river to the north. The village of Akatsuka in Hashimoto was such a village, which grew mainly rice in paddies cultivated on the terraces.\nAkatsuka's irrigation system can be roughly divided into two: the middle and lower channels on the one hand and the top channel and an irrigation pond (locally called the “Village Pond”) on the other. The Lower Terrace closest to the Kinokawa river was irrigated by the former while the Upper Terrace by the latter. The clear distinction between the two irrigated areas may well be understood to indicate that the irrigation system developed in line with the history of the field development. Judging from various documents, we know definitely that the Upper Terrace was developed earlier than the Lower Terrace. This means that the top irrigation channel is older than the middle and lower channels. Closely connected to this is the management of the irrigation organizations. The middle and lower irrigation channels were managed by turns among farmers on one-year shifts, whereas the top channel and the “Village Pond” were maintained and supervised under a fixed bandō system.\nThe irrigation organization in charge of supplying water to the Upper Terrace was determined by the early-modern village order. In the latter half of the seventeenth century, the early-modern order was established in both the realms of irrigation and religious ritual, with the privileges involved enjoyed by certain farmers as in medieval times. By contrast, the organization that irrigated new paddies on the Lower Terrace was sustained by taking turns among farming households. The management formula adopted for the middle and lower channels testifies to the completion of Akatsuka's early-modern village order.\nThat each small area demarcated by small rivers was designated as an administrative village during the formative phase of the early-modern period was founded on the collapse of the medieval irrigation order that covered a much wider area and the emergence of a self-contained irrigation system run by farming households. Akatsuka is one example.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_heading_23":{"attribute_name":"見出し","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_heading_banner_headline":"近畿地方村落の史的研究/特定研究「近畿地方村落の史的研究」成果報告","subitem_heading_language":"ja"},{"subitem_heading_banner_headline":"Studies on the Rural History of Kii Province","subitem_heading_language":"en"}]},"item_10002_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15024/00000788","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_10002_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"国立歴史民俗博物館","subitem_publisher_language":"ja"}]},"item_10002_relation_17":{"attribute_name":"関連サイト","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_relation_name":[{"subitem_relation_name_text":"第69集 収録論文 タイトルリスト"}],"subitem_relation_type_id":{"subitem_relation_type_id_text":"https://www.rekihaku.ac.jp/outline/publication/ronbun/ronbun3/index.html#no69","subitem_relation_type_select":"URI"}}]},"item_10002_source_id_11":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AN00377607","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_10002_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"0286-7400","subitem_source_identifier_type":"PISSN"}]},"item_10002_version_type_20":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"福田, アジオ","creatorNameLang":"ja"},{"creatorName":"フクタ, アジオ","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Fukuta, Azio","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2016-04-01"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"kenkyuhokoku_069_09.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"2.2 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"kenkyuhokoku_069_09.pdf","url":"https://rekihaku.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/805/files/kenkyuhokoku_069_09.pdf"},"version_id":"90121e57-0f81-402a-b900-adf6dca5f94d"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"紀ノ川左岸における水利と村落(Ⅱ. 村)","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"紀ノ川左岸における水利と村落(Ⅱ. 村)","subitem_title_language":"ja"},{"subitem_title":"Irrigation System and Villages on the Left Bank of the Kinokawa River(II.
