内容記述 | This paper concerns a research of penetration process of silkworm eggs of Japanese origin into French sericultural regions in the middle of 1860s, taking a case of the Départment Ardèche. In the turmoil of prevailing silkworm disease in 1850s, the sericultural farmers in the Départment of Ardèche in France were making efforts to continue their production in depending upon quality silkworm eggs imported. What was problematical for them at that moment was which eggs from which regions should be selected and reared to overcome the disease. From the end of 1850s to the beginning of 1860s, the major imported silkworm eggs imported into the Départment of Ardèche were from the Balkan Peninsula and from South Russia. Some silkworm eggs out of these, which were suited to the sericultural conditions in France were producing a certain yield with cocoons spinned for several years. These eggs however were on the verge of annihilation under the spread of silkworm disease at the end of several years passed. Under these circumstances the major egg types in that Départment, type Bucharest and type Nouka disappeared one after another at the start of 1860s. And the sikworm eggs which could replace them never existed in European and Near Eastern sericultural regions. The siklworm eggs of Japanese origin were introduced into the Départment of Ardèche in that period. The height of prosperity of Japanese silkworm eggs was at the end of 1860s. Their occupation in overall eggs reared in that Départment was not less than 80%. At that time there were many articles concerning Japanese silkworm eggs in a wide variety of agricultural bulletins and periodicals concerned with sericulture. Even the articles on current events declared great expectation and high appreciation of Japanese silkworms. In 1870s however, together with the reduced scale of overall sericulture in France, the silkworm disease could at last be overcome bacteriologically and in some other ways. It is considered that the predominance of sikworm disease terminated around 1875. After this year the silkworm eggs of French origin won back the situation of major eggs in Ardèche Départment, and the Japanese eggs went losing their occupation rate sharply. This is the evolution of Japanese silkworm eggs in a case of Ardèche Départment. |
