| 内容記述 | 経塚は弥勒信仰や阿弥陀信仰などの様々な影響のもと造られた。それが時代を経るにしたがって、経塚を造る功徳によって極楽往生を願う、という阿弥陀信仰に収斂されていく。ところで、紙に書いた経典を埋める一般的な紙本経塚以外に、粘土板に経典を刻んで焼き上げたものを埋納した瓦経塚がある。紙が腐ってしまうのに対し、瓦経は「不朽」なので、弥勒下生の時まで残すことができるのである。このため瓦経は弥勒信仰による経塚の象徴として位置付けられてきた。 同時に作られ二ヶ所に埋納された、伊勢小町塚瓦経と菩提山瓦経は遺物が混乱している。ところで、国立歴史民俗博物館所蔵拓本集に、確実に小町塚から出土したことが判る瓦経片が収集されている。これを分析することにより、両者の遺物は埋納当初から混ざっていたことが判明した。すなわち作ることに重点がおかれ、埋納、保存には意が注がれなかったのである。このことから最後の紀年銘瓦経である小町塚・菩提山瓦経には弥勒信仰の影は薄く、当時の紙本経塚同様、作善業としての阿弥陀信仰の所産であったことを論証し、瓦経がこれ以後作られなくなった意味を説く。 |

| 内容記述 | Kyozuka, or sutra mounds, used to be made under the influences of various factors such as the faiths in miroku (Maitreya), and amida (Amitabha). As the time passed by, this became converged to the Amida faith that one would pray for the peaceful life after peaceful death by making a sutra mound as an act of doing merit. Besides common sutras inscribed on paper, there used to be Gakyozuka (roof-tile sutra mounds), where clay plates engraved with sutras and then baked were buried. Compared to paper sutras that decay, the roof-tile sutras were believed to be “permanent” and therefore could remain existent until the Maitreya was born down into this world. This is why roof-tile sutras have been regarded as the symbol of sutra mounds according to the Maitreya faith. For the Ise-Komachizuka sutra mound and the Bodaisan sutra mound, there was a confusion of the archaeological remains as those roof-tiles were produced at the same time and then buried into each of the mounds. However, there is a fragment of a roof-tile sutra in the collection of rubbings owned by the National Museum of Japanese History and is identified as excavated from Komachizuka. By analyzing the piece, it has proved that the remains in both mounds were mixed from the very beginning of the burial. This means that the largest emphasis was placed on the production itself, rather than the process of burial and prepervation. Based upon this fact, this paper clarifies the point why roof-tile sutras were no longer made from that time on, by demonstrating that the sutra mounds in Komachizuka and Bodaisan, where the most recent roof-tile sutras engraved with the year were found, reflect little influence of the Maitreya faith, and that they were rather a product of the Amida faith as an act of doing merit just as paper sutra mounds in those days. |
