| 内容記述 | 本論文は高知県の山間部に伝わった本川神楽を取り上げて、「宗教者の身体と社会」について考える端緒としたい。具体的には、本川神楽の担い手である太夫（たゆう）が伝承してきた知識について検討する。また近隣の類似の神楽において用いられる祭文についても比較分析する。それらを通して民俗芸能における宗教性を再検討することへとつなげたい。 本川神楽は、芸能だけではなく、これを担う太夫はホウやシキを知っているとされ、何らかの呪術を駆使することが可能だと信じられてきた。また太夫は暦や行事に関する高度な知識を持ち、死者の祭祀にも関わっていた。祭りにおける芸能の演じ手にとどまらない民俗信仰形成の核となる存在なのである。 またこうした太夫たちが伝えていた祭文類の中には中世に遡るものがあり、そうでないものも、中世的な発想によって構成されている。「五龍王祭文」と総称される宇宙を五人の王子が時間で区切って支配する物語は西日本各地に残され、四国山間部の神楽にも継承されている。これは、この神楽が広い地域において、高度な宗教的な知識を下敷きに形成されたことを示唆している。ただし、現在では実際の祭儀においてはその位相は不安定である。 今後もこうした検討を続けることで、本川神楽の特質を解明することが可能になろう。またこの芸能の系譜についても祭文と現在の芸態との差異を意識しての検討が求められる。さらに四国各地、日本列島各地の「神楽」と呼ばれる芸能とそれに携わる人びとの伝承を比較し分析することが必要である。 |

| 内容記述 | The general subject of this study is the physical body of religious believers and society within the context of the tradition of Hongawa-Kagura passed down in the mountainous region of Kochi Prefecture. It makes a detailed study of the knowledge passed down to performers of Hongawa-Kagura, who are called “tayu.” A comparative study is also made with religious texts used in a similar form of kagura from a neighboring area. By investigating these elements, the author aims to re-examine the religious characteristics of folk performing arts. Hongawa-Kagura is not merely a performance. It is believed that through their knowledge of “hou” and “shiki,” the tayu who perform this kagura are able to draw on some form of incantation. Tayu also possess a high level of knowledge concerning the calendar and events, and were also involved in rituals for the dead. They played an integral role in the formation of folk beliefs and practices that extended beyond merely giving performances at festivals. Some of the texts passed down by these tayu date as far back as the Middle Ages, and even those that don't have been produced based on medieval ideas. The tale generally known as “Goryuou-Saimon,” in which five princes rule the cosmos in different times, still exists throughout western Japan and has been passed on to kagura performed in the mountain regions of Shikoku. This suggests that kagura was formed over a wide area underpinned by a sophisticated knowledge of religion. However, this aspect is not found consistently in rituals performed today. It should be possible to determine the special characteristics of Hongawa-kagura by continuing with this sort of study. An examination of the history of this performing art also requires awareness of the differences between the texts and present-day performances. It is also necessary to compare performances referred to as kagura in Shikoku and throughout the Japanese archipelago with the traditions of the people involved in such performances. |
