| 内容記述 | 基本的に人々が共同で飲食する場合には，それぞれの構成員の身分や社会関係などが，席次や食事内容などに反映されることが多い。さまざまな身分の人間を抱えて催される祭礼や儀式などでは，特に複雑な人的構成を持つことになるが，同一な身分集団の場合には，比較的単純に同じものを同時に体内に取り込んで，誓約などを行い集団としての精神的な一体化が図られることになる。 前者の場合には，同じような食物でも内容を変え，同じ場所であっても主席からの遠近を違え，または時間を微妙にずらすことによって，全体としての共同性を保ちながらも，内部でそれぞれの差異を強調して，参加者の身分関係が表現されていた。また後者の場合には，一致団結して強硬な行動に出る一揆などの際に，一味神水などと称して神聖な神の水を一同が一気に飲む，という一種の誓約行為が採られたのである。 小稿では，こうした共同飲食の在り方のうち，特に前者について，①神と天皇，②天皇と貴族，③貴族と武士，④将軍と大名，⑤在地領主と農民，⑥有力農民と一般農民，といったレベルで検討する。すなわち，それぞれのケースについて，古代から中世にかけての身分秩序の在り方が，祭礼や儀礼の際における共同飲食の場に，どのように反映するのかを見ていくこととしたい。 さらに儀式などの際に，身分の高い者から低い者への食物贈与である〝下し物〟を中心に分析すると同時に，さまざまな贈答儀礼の中に，武力の誇示や衣食住などの保障を象徴するような構造があることに注目する。しかも，上記のような儀式が，それぞれ単独に完結しながらも，実際には重心円的な構造を持って関連し合い，古代もしくは中世社会の身分秩序が，全体として維持されていたことが重要である。 |

| 内容記述 | The author argues that practices of eating together significantly contributed to the class consciousness among people of ancient and medieval Japan and to the maintenance of the social solidarity as a whole. Distinction in the position of a seat, menus and food vessels at a banquet and ceremony made participants aware of the social status to which they belonged. The author examined how participants were distinguished from one another in the following six cases; 1) the Great Thanksgiving Service after the enthronement where the god and new emperor ate together; 2) on the following two days, the emperor and high-class bureaucrats as well as representatives of local provinces ate together; 3) daikyō banquets of the Heian Period (794-1192) where different classes of the bureaucrats ate together; 4) onari of the Muromachi Shogunate (1338-1573) where a shogun and high-class samurai ate together; 5) local banquets where locally influential samurai leaders invited land owners; and 6) banquets within a village where influential farmers invited peasants. In addition to the seat assignment and differences in the menus and food vessels, gifts of food given from those of a higher status to a lower status at a banquet strengthened the class consciousness. At the same time, the participants in a banquet gained a sense of solidarity because part of their menu was the same regardless of the social status to which each participant belonged. Moreover, people were invited for banquets for both a higher and lower social classes, and therefore, they felt close to those in both higher and lower social classes. Owing to the banquets for all the classes of people, the Japanese society as a whole could maintain the solidarity among the people. | |||||||||||
