| 内容記述 | 民俗学において，「常民」という概念は，この学問のキー概念であるにもかかわらず，その概念自体が揺れ動くという奇妙な性格を備えた概念である。しかしながら考え直せば，逆にキー概念であるからこそ，民俗学の動向に合わせてこの概念が変わりつづけてきたのだと解釈できるのかもしれない。もしそうならば，このキー概念の変遷を検討することによって，民俗学の特質と将来のあり方について理解できるよいヒントが得られるかもしれない。 そのような関心のもとに，本稿において，次の二つの課題を対象とする。一つが「常民」についての学説史的検討であり，もう一つが学説史をふまえてどのような創造的な常民概念があり得るのかという点である。後者の課題は私自身の小さな試みに過ぎないためにそれ自体は一つの主張以上の評価をもつものではない。だが，機会あるごとにこのような方法論レベルの試みを行うことが，民俗学の可能性を広げるものであると信じている。 前者の学説史においては，柳田国男の常民の使用例は三つの段階に区切れること，また，神島二郎，竹田聴洲の常民についての卓越した見解の位置づけを本稿でおこなっている。後者の課題については，学説史をふまえて「自然人としての常民」とはなにかという点を検討している。そして常民概念は，集合主体レベル，文化レベルでのみとらえるのではなくて，個別の生存主体としてのワレからはじまり，それが私的世界を越えて公的世界に開かれたときにはじめて集合主体や文化主体として現象すると理解した方がよいのではないかと提案している。つまり民俗学は，一個一個の人間の個別な生存主体を大切にしてきたし，今後もそれを大切なものとみなしていくことが民俗学の方法論的特性だから，常民概念の基本にそれを設定すべきだと指摘しているのである。 |

| 内容記述 | The notion of commonalty is a key concept of folklore, and it is curious enough that the concept in itself is not steady. However, from another point of view, it may be a true key concept which would keep constantly changing with the trend of each academic field. If it is so, a study of its changes may give us some clues to understand the specific character of folklore and the way that it should be in the future. Having above concern in mind, this paper deals with the following two subjects; one is the historical consideration of the theories of “commonalty”, and the other is what kind of creative concept of commonalty will possibly be defined on the basis of the historical study of the theories. The latter is only a small attempt of the author's, so it is no more than a opinion. But the author believes that the methodological experiment at every opportunity widens the possibility of folklore. In the former subject, historical consideration, the author divide YANAGITA Kunio's use of the word “commonalty” into three stages, and evaluates the excellent opinions of KAMISHIMA Jiro and TAKEDA Choshu on commonalty. On the latter subject, the author examines what is “commonalty as natural men” taking the historical study into account. Then the author suggests that it is better to understand the concept of commonalty as follows rather than grasping only on the level of collective subject or culture; it starts from “I” as an individual live subject and only when it goes beyond the private world and is opened to the public world, it appears as a collective or cultural subject. In other words, the study of folklore has valued one by one individual live subject, and so will it do in the future, which is the distinctive quality of methodology of folklore, thus the basic concept of commonalty should also be considered likewise. |
