| 内容記述 | 本稿は、共同研究「日本における都市生活史の研究」Ａ班「古代・中世の都市をめぐる流通と消費」第二期において構築作業を行った「古代・中世都市生活史データベース（物価表）」、とくに入力用データベースの設計・仕様、および入力作業に関する報告である。 第1章「使用ソフトウェアとデータベースの性格」では、データベースの基本的な性格と、それに基づいて選定した入力用データベース作成用ソフトウエアについて述べた。 第2章「入力用ＤＢの構築と入力ルール」は、入力用データベースにおける日付・物価・史料・備考の各パートごとに、各項目の設計段階の考え方や入力ルール、また、入力用フォームやデータ集約システムなどについて述べた。とくに、入力作業を簡略化し、最小限の入力項目から全ての項目にデータを割り振っていく手法について、できるだけ詳細に報告した。 第3章「公開用データベースに向けて」では、データベースの公開に向けて、入力作業のなかから浮かび上がってきた入力用データベースの問題点とその解決方法、および、公開用データベースで使用するデータや、検索・表示用画面の仕様などに関する問題提起を試みた。ここでは、ＷＷＷで公開する場合を想定して、検索ルールや表示画面の仕様、データのダウンロード機能などについて提案している。 なお、二〇〇三年七月現在、「古代・中世都市生活史データベース」に入力した物価データの件数は、約三万四千件に達している。 |

| 内容記述 | This paper reports on the Urban Life in Ancient and Medieval Japan Database (Price Charts) that has been constructed as part of the second stage of research into distribution and consumption in ancient and medieval cities by Group A of the joint History of Urban Life in Japan research project. It focuses particular attention on the design and specifications of a database used for data input as well as on the input procedures. In the first part of this paper on software and the attributes of the database, I discuss the fundamental character of the database and the software used for constructing the input database, which was selected on the basis of this initial determination of the kind of database we required. Then, in the second part on the construction of the input database and input guidelines, I examine the considerations and input guidelines for each of the categories of date, price, source material, and remarks contained in the input database, as well as other aspects such as the forms used for this input procedure and the system adopted for data collection. I pay particular attention to the method we adopted for simplifying the data input procedure whereby all of the data were allocated to a minimum number of input categories. In the third part concerning the construction of a database for public use, I examine the problems that arose with regard to the input database in the course of the input procedure undertaken as part of efforts to make the database available to the public, and the methods we adopted to resolve such problems. I also describe the issues we faced with the public database in relation to the data that were used and the search function, display screen layouts and other aspects. This work was undertaken on the assumption that the database would be made available on the world wide web, and it is in this context that I explain aspects such as the search guidelines, screen specifications, and a data download function. It may be noted that as of the end of July 2003, approximately 34,000 pieces of data on prices had been entered into the Urban Life in Ancient and Medieval Japan Database. |
