| 内容記述 | 本論文は愛媛県大洲市上須戒における夫婦共同型出産習俗について、主に一九八四年（昭和五九年）七月〜一九八七年十二月に集中的に調査し、その後二〇〇六年三月まで、数度にわたって補足調査した報告である。 上須戒では、第二次大戦頃まで、「男がいないとお産は難しくなる」との出産観のもと、夫がお産の座を整え、その上で妻を後から抱きかかえて夫婦共同で坐産する習俗があった。戦後、その習俗は開業助産婦によって、仰臥位での夫婦共同型自宅出産として復活し、一九八〇年頃まで続いた。 これまで学界では、夫婦共同型出産習俗の存在を示す報告は数稿見られたが、夫婦共同型出産習俗を体験した産婦やその夫たちからの詳細な出産方法の聞き取りや、体験時の感想等についての調査報告は無い。 そこで、上須戒で夫婦共同型出産を体験した妻たちが、時代の違いに関わりなく一様に「夫の出産参加に強い肯定観や賛意を抱いたこと」や、初産への参加体験が夫たちの出産認識や夫婦観を顕著に好転させ、その後の経産時にも、多くの夫が妻と共に「出産をした」という事実（「夫拒否型出産習俗」をもつ離島では、一九四五年頃まで、経産時は通例、産婦は単独出産を余儀なくされた）等、夫婦共同型出産体験がもたらした産婦やその夫への意義について、体験者たちの口述をもとに、近現代の上須戒出産民俗史として報告した。 また、夫婦共同型出産習俗をもつ地域共同体が、産婦の「安産」条件を、どのような視線の拡がりで捉えて習俗に込めたのかを、地域の暮らしとの関連の中で考察した。 以上の考察から、現代の産婦および夫にとって望ましい出産のあり方の一つとして、上須戒における夫婦共同型出産形態を提示した。 本報告が、これから出産する人々の心に、出産に対するより広い視野と自由な発想を提供できる資料となれば幸いである。 |

| 内容記述 | This paper presents the findings of interviews held with persons who experienced childbirth from the 1920s onwards in Kamisugai, Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture, where the custom was for a husband to attend the birth of his children. Stemming from the belief that “childbirth is more difficult if there is no husband present”, up until around 1945 in Kamisugai a husband would be present at the birth of his children where he would hold his wife from behind. The custom of having the husband in attendance while his wife lay in a supine position was continued by midwives up until around 1980. This paper reports in detail on the experiences of couples who went through childbirth together. Wives were uniformly strongly positive and in agreement with their husbands' participation, and for their part participation in the birth of their first child improved husbands' appreciation of childbirth and what it meant to be a couple. This study compares the experiences of these women who, unlike the custom on isolated islands where husbands were not allowed to be present during childbirth, had their husbands in attendance during delivery with their experiences up to around 1945 when they had no choice but to go through childbirth on their own. It also examines the significance that this shared experience had on the women and their husbands, and the wider concept of the folk custom of “holistic safe of delivery” as part of this practice and its relationship with the local characteristics of Kamisugai. |
