| 内容記述 | 日本中世では13世紀以降に各地で村落形態が集村化していったことが，考古学的に明らかにされている。従来そうした研究は，集落形態に分析の比重があり，城郭との関わりについては分析してこなかった。しかし16世紀にかけた日本の村落の集村化は，多くは城郭を核としたもので，集落プランの凝集に果たした城郭の役割を正しく評価することが必要である。 城郭を核にした集落の凝集（集村化・都市化）は，日本だけのことではない。ヨーロッパ中世においても11世紀を中心に各地で同様の変化が観察できる。最初にこの変化の意義を指摘したトゥベールは，インカステラメント―城郭都市形成―と呼んだ。しかし，こうした集落の変化はアルプス以南に特徴的なものとされ，アルプス以北では重要視していない。こうしたヨーロッパの研究に，現地調査の成果から再検討を加えるとともに，ヨーロッパとの比較によって，日本の城郭集落の特質を捉えるのが目的である。 そこで本稿では，日本での城郭集落形成の分析から，インカステラメントには，村落型と都市型の２形態があることを指摘した。そして，日本では村落型，ついで都市型のインカステラメントを行ったのに対し，ドイツでは都市型に偏し，イギリスでは日本同様の２つの城郭集落形成があったことを明らかにした。ドイツ・イギリスでは土づくりの最終段階である11世紀の城の再評価によって外郭（前城）がもった初源都市としての機能を重視した。こうした検討を通じて，中世の城郭集落の日欧それぞれの特徴と，城郭集落が日欧で共通してもった過渡的で初源的な中世都市としての性格を明らかにした。 日本のこれまでの研究は，村落と都市を区分して検討を進めてきたが，地域における中心地（都市）の形成といった視点から分析をすることで，村と都市を横断的に検討し，両者の関わりの変化をたどり，考古学的成果による地域の中心地形成史を明らかにすることが可能になる。こうした試みは個別都市の復原に留まらない，中世都市研究の新しい視角を提供できると思われる。 |

| 内容記述 | Archaeological studies have demonstrated that a rural settlement started to centralize in various regions of Japan in the thirteenth century and thereafter. The settlement analysis has conventionally focused on the settlement distribution, and neglected the spatial relationship with the adjacent castles. This study stresses that the castle structure is the key to understanding the centralization of Japanese rural settlement in the sixteenth century. The centralization of rural settlement along the castle is seen not only in Japan but also in the eleventh century of Europe. Toubert first recognized this phenomenon and named it as “incastellamento”. In his study, this settlement reformation was only found in the south of the Alps and not apparent in the north. This paper reanalyzes the European studies based on the field survey in Germany and Britain, and aims to clarify the idiosyncrasies of Japanese and European incastellamento. Based on the analysis of Japanese settlement formation, the study ^identifies two types of incastellamento, rural and urban. In Japan, the rural-type of incastellamento occurred first, followed by the urban-type. In Germany, only the urban-type of incastellamento was found, whereas in Britain, both types of incastellamento occurred as is in Japan. In Germany and Britain, the reanalysis of the earth-and-timber castles in the eleventh century points out that the outer bailey functioned as an incipient urban center. Japanese historical settlement studies have traditionally dichotomized urban and rural areas. This study proposes a more integrative approach to the settlement analysis by focusing on the formation of regional cores in a broad, regional perspective. |
